Derek Theler, the professional hockey playing uncle to the titular “baby,” talks about the upcoming second season of ABC Family’s hit-sitcom Baby Daddy. Baby Daddy stars Jean-Luc Bilodeau (Kyle XY) as Ben, Tahj Mowry (Smart Guy, Full House) as Tucker, and Theler, as Danny, roommates who have Ben’s daughter from an ex-girlfriend dropped off of their doorstep to begin season one. Season 2 premieres tonight at 8:30pm ET/7:30pm CT.
Theler, who now lives with TV-brother Bilodeau in everyday life, is a central member of the show’s main love triangle. Theler’s Danny is pining after Chelsea Kane’s (Dancing with the Stars, One Tree Hill) Riley, while Riley is still infatuated with long-time crush Ben.
According to Theler, Danny is about to take a step back, with a Mean guest-star love-interest. “He’s trying to figure out what he wants to do with his love life. He’s experimenting with different girls on dates…Lacey Chabert (Mean Girls, Party of Five) plays one of my love interests.”
With that being said, Theler doesn’t believe that Riley is ever out of the picture for Danny.
As for Riley and Ben?
“There are a couple of very interesting episodes where Danny needs to decide if he’s going to help his brother out because he may have some feelings for his dream girl, or if he’s going to hold them back.”
While the love triangle is center story for the romance fans, the comedy really flows with the cast’s chemistry overall, specifically when the guys are together. Tucker and Ben are best friends, so that means Danny is still getting to know Tucker. This season, Theler says to expect their bromance to continue to bloom, including Danny being forced to set Tucker up on a date with a way-taller-than-Mowry supermodel friend.
That bromance flows through the rest of the cast as well and is easily noticed by the TV audience. “The chemistry between the cast and the crew and how much we like each other. We truly, truly care about each other. We are very close. I live with Jean-Luc, my TV brother. I see Chelsea very often. It’s such a close-knit cast and we care about each other. We love to come to work and get to see all of our best friends.”
Baby Daddy airs Wednesday nights at 8:30pm on ABC Family.
